Gateways Disability Services

Launched in 2003, JFCS/East Bay’s Gateways to Community programs quickly became indispensable resources for Jews with disabilities in the East Bay. Through Gateways, Jews of all ages with disabilities have gained greater welcoming access to the rich social, spiritual and cultural life of the East Bay Jewish community.

Chaverim

As the only group for Jewish adults with developmental disabilities in the East Bay, Chaverim (“Friends”) provides its members with unique social and educational opportunities. At monthly meetings, Chaverim members learn about Jewish holidays and traditions, socialize with other adults within a Jewish context, and find connection to the larger Jewish community. Every year Chavrim members take a springtime trip to the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in southern California for a weekend retreat of personal connection and spiritual renewal.

Information & Referral

JFCS/East Bay’s disability services coordinator refers disabled East Bay residents to other sources of case management and mental health services outside of JFCS/East Bay when appropriate.
