JFCS/East Bay is the only organization providing services and assistance for the 270 Holocaust survivors in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. As an agency, we feel a strong moral obligation to assist our local survivors in whatever way is needed and provide them with a caring community. In December 2005, we were pleased to announce the naming of our Holocaust Survivor Services office at the Center for Older Adult Services in honor of survivor Lucy Marx and her late husband, William Marx. Their daughter Doris Marx's generous contributions of time and money to the program have provided invaluable support to our survivor clients.
We offer Holocaust survivors guidance and resources in the following areas:
-
Case Management:
Our case managers thoroughly assess each survivor's needs, from housing options to arranging reliable caregivers, and directly manage and monitor care services for survivors and their families.
-
Restitution Applications:
Our staff helps survivors navigate the complicated process of applying for restitution benefits. JFCS/East Bay is the Claims Conference's official help center for all restitution matters in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
-
Café Europa:
Each month, JFCS/East Bay presents a lively social and cultural program for survivors, their families, and friends.
-
Counseling:
We provide individual weekly counseling sessions to those survivors who would like to speak about their lives and experiences with a therapist.
-
Volunteers:
We match survivors with friendly volunteers for regular visits that provide a social connection and add to quality of life.
-
Financial Support:
With funds disbursed from the Claims Conference, we provide reimbursement to needy survivors for expenses such as medications, food, transportation, and in-home care.
