School-Based Services

Child Observations and Assessments

If a child is struggling in his or her preschool classroom, JFCS/East Bay’s early childhood specialists can be called in for observation and assessment. We concentrate first on helping the teachers and parents understand the meaning behind the child’s behaviors. We then mediate between the school and parents and develop a plan specific to the child’s needs. This early attention to a child’s individual development is often crucial to later school success.

Preschool Consultations and Caregiver Training

JFCS/East Bay’s preschool consultation services bring our early childhood experts into the school to guide teachers and parents on child development, behavioral issues, and positive discipline. At school sites, our staff advises administrators and teachers on program development, team dynamics, and hiring decisions. We also offer extensive training to early childhood educators so they can better recognize and manage behavioral issues. Our consultation program provides preschools with a solid understanding of early childhood development so they can nurture the children in their care.

Jewish Preschools, Day Schools, and Midrashot

For many years, JFCS/East Bay has been providing mental health consultation at Jewish preschools, day schools, and midrashot. These programs turn to us to assist individuals and families who are seeking help within the context of Jewish values and sensibilities. We have built highly successful relationships with many of these schools, providing guidance to administrators, teachers, and parents as well as conducting parent-teacher workshops and child-specific assessments.
