Health Navigation & Healthy Lifestyle

Health Navigation

Lack of access to health care is one of the most critical issues facing refugee and immigrant communities. Due to language and cultural barriers, it is extremely difficult for non-English speaking refugees and immigrants to access and utilize health services. JFCS/East Bay’s bilingual health navigators guide clients through the complex health care system, as well as teach them how to navigate the system on their own.

Healthy Lifestyle

JFCS/East Bay’s healthy lifestyle program provides workshops and seminars in the areas of nutrition, exercise, chronic disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices to refugee and immigrant seniors. The program empowers participants to make positive lifestyle changes for themselves and their families. Particularly important is that many of the participants learn to integrate exercise into their daily routines for the first time in their lives.
